Position Description
The Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics at the University of Chicago invites applications for an Instructional Professor (IP) in Computational Economics.

This is a full-time, career-track teaching position with a start date of September 1, 2021. The initial two-year appointment is renewable with opportunity for promotion. Appointments at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Instructional Professor rank will be considered.

The IP will annually teach five courses in the MA program in Computational Social Science (MACSS), depending on other responsibilities, in consultation with the Department of Economics. Those courses will cover some combination of structured/unstructured machine learning approaches, but may also include structural estimation; network or general equilibrium modeling; data visualization; computational statistics (including introductions to Bayesian and non-parametric methods, Markov processes, and Monte Carlo simulation); or research drawing on sensors, data scraping, or large data analysis. The courses may also include applied computational work in a particular area of economics.

In addition to teaching, the IP will advise MACSS-Econ students in their course selections; hire and manage teaching assistants; participate in program admissions, staff hiring, and student recruitment; supervise occasional MA theses; and help plan the MACSS-Econ curriculum.

The position includes support for professional development. The IP will join a dynamic community of social science researchers.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a PhD in Economics or a closely related discipline. The PhD must be in hand prior to the start date. Teaching experience is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated expertise in applying data science or computational approaches to questions in economics.
