The Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Victoria, invites applications for a tenured Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Economics commencing 1 July 2021.

The department has a diverse complement of twenty-seven faculty members offering undergraduate, MA and PhD programs. The department’s research is equally comprehensive, with core strengths in environmental and resource economics, labour economics, economic history and the economics of Indigenous people. We have a strong group of junior professors along with established and award-winning scholars working in a dynamic and collaborative environment (more on the Department at https://www.uvic.ca/socialsciences/economics).

The department chair is expected to advance the department by attracting, mentoring, and retaining the highest quality faculty; supporting excellence in scholarship; leading and developing academic programs; committing to university service; fostering public engagement; and fostering a climate that celebrates accomplishments and promotes an equitable and collegial environment. The normal appointment for a department chair is for three or five years.

Required Qualifications include:
• A PhD in economics with an excellent publishing record. The field of specialization is open.
• Experience in university or departmental administration and an ability to work collaboratively.
• Evidence of experience promoting diversity.
• An outstanding track record of teaching and supervision.
