The Department of Economics and Finance in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph is seeking a scholar of international reputation to join as the Lang Chair in Finance. The successful candidate must be qualified and experienced to join our faculty as a tenured member at either the associate or full professor rank.

Outstanding candidates with research and teaching expertise in any of the core areas of finance are encouraged to apply. Candidates for this position will hold a PhD in finance, economics or related field, and will have established themselves as recognized scholars, producing internationally recognized research, and be good teachers at all levels. The ideal candidate will have an active research agenda with a record of publications in leading finance journals, research funding (particularly tri-agency or equivalent), teaching excellence, and a record of graduate supervision. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2021, but alternate starting dates may be arranged.

The Department of Economics and Finance is a research-intensive academic unit consisting of 26 faculty members, and offers a range of academic programs leading to the degrees: BA, BComm, MA, and PhD. The Department is also an integral part of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph. The School delivers one of the largest undergraduate business programs in Ontario with over 4,000 students currently enrolled, and offers a wide range of specialized programs in business and economics across undergraduate, graduate, and professional education. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program; produce research with impact that will be funded by federal granting agencies; and have the pedagogic ability to teach and supervise both undergraduate and graduate students. The Chair will also be expected to play a leadership role in Lang’s research domain, including membership in the Lang Research Leaders Group and mentorship of emerging scholars.
