The Department of Economics at the University of Connecticut (UConn) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in the field of Econometrics.

The successful candidate will develop a nationally and internationally competitive research program through scholarly publications, professional engagement, and potentially extramural funding. In the area of teaching, successful candidates will share a commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels, development of innovative courses, and mentoring of students in research, outreach and professional development. Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their research, teaching, and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and provide leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

Founded in 1881, UConn is a Land Grant and Sea Grant institution and member of the Space Grant Consortium. It is the state’s flagship institution of higher education and includes a main campus in Storrs, CT, four regional campuses throughout the state, and 13 Schools and Colleges, including a Law School in Hartford, and Medical and Dental Schools at the UConn Health campus in Farmington. The University has approximately 10,000 faculty and staff and 32,000 students, including nearly 24,000 undergraduates and over 8,000 graduate and professional students. The Economics Department consists of 27 tenured and tenure-track faculty who boast an impressive record of scholarship and publications in top disciplinary journals in a range of areas of economics (for more information see: https://econ.uconn.edu). The department’s graduate program confers both Ph.D. and M.S. degrees, with about 90 active students. The undergraduate program is sizeable, with more than 1100 majors.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates for this position must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in Economics or related field by August 2021 (equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable); have demonstrated excellence in scholarly research (as shown by high-quality working papers, submitted work and publications) in the field of Econometrics; have the ability to teach rigorous Ph.D. level Econometrics courses and master level quantitative courses for our M.S. in Quantitative Economics program; and possess a deep commitment to promoting diversity through their academic and research programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications for this position include complementaries with current strengths of faculty, opportunities for research collaboration, and demonstrated teaching experience. Ability to teach open source programming (like R and Python) and background in empirical economics are desirable.

Appointment Terms

This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2021. The successful candidate’s academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Faculty may also be asked to teach at one of UConn’s regional campuses as part of their ordinary workload. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
