The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) invites applications, expressions of interest, and nominations for the position of Head of the Department of Economics in the Joseph M. Bryan School of Business and Economics (Bryan School). The Head should have a clear, strategic vision for further advancing the research and educational programs in the Department. The successful candidate should have an outstanding record of research accomplishment, national and global visibility, and demonstrated leadership experience in economics. The Head serves as the chief spokesperson and advocate for the Department both within and outside of the University and ensures that the Department serves as a vital resource to private- and public-sector partners in the state and region.

The Department of Economics offers the B.A. and B.S. degrees in Economics, serving more than 100 majors. The Department offers two graduate degrees—the MA in Applied Economics degree and the PhD in Economics degree.

The Department has 14 members including 12 tenured or tenure-track faculty, one full-time non-tenure track senior lecturer, and one part-time non-tenure track lecturer. Over the past four years, Department faculty members have been awarded over $1.2 million of external funding from private and public agencies including NSF, NIH, EDA, USDA, and NIST. In recent years faculty have published in top-ranked journals including the American Economic Review, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Econometrics, RAND Journal of Economics, Addiction, Research Policy, and Journal of International Economics. During the 2018-2019 academic year, the Department’s faculty published 22 refereed journal articles. Information about individual faculty may be found at the following URL: www.economics.uncg.edu.

Applicants should possess an earned doctorate in economics and have an established record of high-quality scholarship in applied microeconomics and/or public policy research. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to lead the Department's undergraduate and graduate teaching, its sponsored and unsponsored research, and its overall contribution to the missions of the Bryan School and the University. Publications in leading journals is very important.
