The University of Cologne, Germany, invites applications for a tenured faculty position at the Associate Professor / Full Professor (W2/W3) level.

Associate / Full Professorship (f/m/d) (W2/W3) in Political Economy

The professorship is part of the Cluster of Excellence “ECONtribute: Markets & Public Policy”, run jointly by the Universities of Cologne and Bonn and funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) in the context of the Excellence Strategy. The Cluster has a goal of providing a dynamic, collaborative, and international research environment for the understanding of market functioning and failures as well as public policy responses, employing innovative research approaches. The applicants are expected to contribute to the Cluster’s research agenda (see https://selten.institute/econtribute/). The professorship is part of an initiative to strengthen the profile of the Cluster’s research area “Political Economy”. We invite applications from scholars in political science or economics with contributions to the field of political economy, including international political economy. The professorship will be located in the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Cologne.

The position is available immediately or based on mutual agreement. Depending on previous achievements, the successful candidate qualifies for an associate professorship (W2) or a full professorship (W3). W2 positions are intended for researchers who have conducted research of excellent quality and published internationally. W3 positions are intended for researchers who also have established a track record of outstanding research and are considered leading experts in her or his field of research.

Until the end of 2025, there is no teaching obligation, but some teaching is expected. Subsequently, the successful candidate will teach courses in political science or political economy at the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences.

The recruitment requirements according to Section 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz – HG NRW) apply.
