Full Text of JOE Listing:

CBO, a nonpartisan agency that provides Congress with the objective, timely analysis needed for economic and budgetary decisions seeks applied economists to use cutting-edge economic concepts and empirical techniques to model and analyze policy changes and to write reports and working papers about those analyses, enhancing the transparency of CBO’s work.

The research topics will include the impact of a change in government activities in the housing market on the federal budget deficit and on market participants; the effect of proposed policies on the behavior of private insurers in health insurance markets; the factors that determine bank failures and how those failures might affect the cost of FDIC insurance; the cost and effect of policies supporting the financial system during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic; and the identification and estimation of structural model parameters, with both survey and administrative data used for sources of variation, to improve CBO’s current models. The topics of the economist’s analysis will shift over time, providing new opportunities to contribute.

Graduate degree in finance, economics, or related quantitative field and experience in applied economics, such as applied econometrics or industrial organization. Advanced knowledge of statistical software programs such as Stata, SAS, R, MATLAB, and Python.
