The Office of the Chief Economist (OCE) at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is looking to hire an economist. OCE offers an excellent environment for empirically-oriented economists who are interested in both research and policy related to intellectual property. Our economists provide guidance on USPTO initiatives, policy analysis, and original research on the impacts of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets in both the domestic and international environments.
OCE maintains a working paper series, a seminar series, and cohosts an annual innovation conference. The USPTO’s economists regularly present their work at conferences and publish in leading journals. Economists with data and analytical experience related to innovation and/or intellectual property (patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets), who write and communicate effectively, and who have a strong comprehension of microeconomic analysis are encouraged to apply.
