The Institute for Business and Social Impact at Haas at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Postdoc with expertise in fintech, financial services, and financial inclusion with an expected start date of as soon as possible. This position is funded for 2 years and is full-time for a 1 year term with renewal contingent on performance. The mission of Berkeley’s newly formed Fintech and Financial Inclusion Initiative (FFII) is to generate a portfolio of rigorous academic research that informs and inspires innovation in fintech and financial services for unbanked and vulnerable populations, and the growth of small and medium enterprises. Paul Gertler and Joshua Blumenstock co-direct FFII. The fellow will have the opportunity to study issues related to financial inclusion both on the household and firm side using novel administrative datasets and field experiments with engaged industry partners. Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) by start date in economics, finance, and related fields who are interested in studying themes related to fintech, financial services, and financial inclusion. Scholars with strengths in applied microeconometrics, field experiments, and applied data science (including machine learning and computational methods for working with unstructured data) are particularly encouraged.
