The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong. It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’s, and Bachelor’s degrees. It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,400. The total annual consolidated expenditure budget of the University is in excess of HK$7.4 billion.

School of Accounting and Finance

Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Environmental Economics (Ref. 20032401)

The School of Accounting and Finance is the longest established accounting school in Hong Kong with over 80 full-time academic and teaching staff in the areas of accounting, finance, economics, and law. The School has adequate resources to support a variety of research interests and activities, and has comparative advantages in promoting cross-disciplinary research that is needed in the modern business world. The School has maintained an excellent network with overseas and Chinese mainland institutions for collaborative work.

The research of our Faculty of Business is ranked 64th in the world (The UTD Top 100 Worldwide Business School Rankings based on research contributions for the period 2015-2019). Our Economics team has developed and specialised in the research areas of international economics, financial economics, and energy economics; with a focus on economics-based inter-disciplinary research. During the last few years, faculty members in the School were successful in publishing their research papers in top-tier refereed journals, including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Management Science, Journal of International Business Studies, Canadian Journal of Economics, Journal of Development Economics, and Journal of International Money and Finance. The School hosts the highly regarded international journal China Accounting and Finance Review.

Hong Kong is an international city located strategically at the heart of Asia and is the gateway to China, with excellent transport links to major international cities. The University campus is located near the harbour connecting Kowloon and the Hong Kong Island, and in the vicinity of Tsim Sha Tsui, which is one of the most popular areas for visitors.

The School is now inviting applications or nominations of Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Environmental Economics. The appointee is expected to play a leading role in the Center for Economic Sustainability and Entrepreneurial Finance within the School. The major role of the Center is to conduct research and facilitate teaching and knowledge transfer in areas related with economic sustainability and entrepreneurial finance. Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) conduct research that leads to publications in top-tier refereed journals;

(b) undertake teaching at undergraduate and/or graduate levels;

(c) engage in high-level consultancy in environmental related areas, and other scholarly activities;

(d) provide leadership in research and programme/curriculum development;

(e) supervise graduate student theses/dissertations;

(f) perform academic and administrative duties; and

(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of School or her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and excellent communication skills. Applicants for the post of Assistant Professor should have the potential to secure publications in top-tier refereed journals. For appointment at the Associate Professor level, applicants are in addition required to have:

(a) extensive university teaching and relevant research experience;

(b) a strong publication record in top-tier refereed journals; and

(c) good networks in both academia and the profession at regional and international levels.

Candidates with less experience will be considered for appointment at the level of Assistant Professor.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment for Assistant Professor will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. An appropriate term will be provided for appointment at Associate Professor level.
