Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Department of Economics at Union College invites applications for a full-time tenure track position, beginning September 1, 2020.

We seek an applied microeconomist, preferably in industrial organization and/or environmental and resource economics, with teaching and research interests in one or more of the following: energy markets and policy, environmental economics, health economics, data analytics, managerial economics, political economy, and/or economics of technology. Applications from candidates in other applied micro fields will be considered, particularly when their work could contribute to Union's broad array of interdisciplinary programs. The successful applicant should have a Ph.D. by September 1, 2020, an established record of teaching excellence and a strong research program. Although it is typical for new tenure-track hires to be appointed at the Assistant Professor level, it is possible to appoint at an advanced Assistant Professor rank (with a shortened tenure clock) for exceptional candidates.

Union College is a highly selective liberal arts college located in the Capital Region of the State of New York and offers highly competitive salary and benefits. Our teaching load is six courses over three ten-week terms per year, up to two of which may take the form of supervision of undergraduate theses. A faculty member normally teaches four classroom courses and supervises eight two-term senior theses per year.

Union College is an equal opportunity employer and strongly committed to student and workforce diversity. Union provides a blend of intellectual, social and cultural opportunities to facilitate the integrated academic, social and personal development of a diverse community. We value and are committed to a host of diverse populations and cultures including, but not limited to, those based on race, religion, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, national origin and veteran status.

Union College recognizes the rich possibilities of interdisciplinary studies by offering many opportunities for both faculty and students to engage with multiple disciplines - and each other - in collaborative classroom settings, innovative majors, interdisciplinary theses, and unique research initiatives. The successful hire can develop courses in their area of expertise that may contribute to one or more of the interdisciplinary programs. Our complete list can be found at: https://www.union.edu/interdisciplinary-studies.

Required application materials: cover letter, CV, job market paper, teaching evaluations (or other evidence of teaching effectiveness), three letters of reference. Applicants are asked to describe in their cover letter how their research, teaching and service could support the college’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. Applicants are also invited to describe in their cover letter how they would advise undergraduate theses, how they may incorporate students in their own research, and how they may contribute to interdisciplinary studies at the college.

To guarantee consideration, applications must be complete by December 1, 2019. We will be conducting interviews at the January, 2020 ASSA meetings in San Diego, CA. For more information about the Department, please visit https://www.union.edu/economics
