The Opportunity
The Australian Electricity Market Initiative (AEMI) is a new initiative introduced by the Monash Business School and CGB to spur academic research, policy formulation and industry engagement in the electricity sector in Australia. Its goal is "to become the pre-eminent centre for all matters related to electricity markets." AEMI benefits from the active support of the Dean of the School, and readily has access to the main market regulators. Areas of research that AEMI focuses on are: network pricing and regulation, wholesale market design, nodal pricing, the impact of vertical integration and the impact of renewables and of storage. AEMI runs an active visitor program and a series of conferences -- with the inaugural event in May 2019.

Members of AEMI include some Monash University faculty as well as high-profile researchers such as Frank Wolak (Stanford Economics) and Steve Callander (Stanford GSB). We seek to further expand this team with a multi-year post-doctoral program. We look for outstanding candidates to assist us to deliver on this ambitious agenda. We offer a competitive compensation, a stimulating working environment in a top-ranked institution in Australia, an attractive location, a discretionary research budget and time for post-doctoral researchers to conduct their own research. Post-doctoral researchers should expect to work 50% of their time on directed tasks, and devote the remainder to their own research agenda.

The Candidate
Candidates must possess a PhD, or be close to completion at the time of applying, and must be active researchers in electricity markets. Candidates should hold some institutional knowledge of these markets. While we primarily look for empiricists in this round, we also welcome applications from researchers active in market design. Ideally the candidates' research agenda aligns with that AEMI to make best use of the resources available. Due to the PhD requirement, the remuneration range will be $86,025- $92,343 pa Level A commencing from Step 3 (plus 17% RC). Expected start date: March to July 2020.
