Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Central Bank of Chile is looking to fill up one Economist/Senior Economist position in its Economic Analysis Department.

Economists at the Economic Analysis Department are expected to conduct research to guide the economic policy process taken by the Central Bank, with special emphasis in the use of novel microdata for the Chilean economy for econometric analysis and/or modeling. It is expected that the economist conducts high-quality research publishable in academic journals and participates in international conferences. The economist should also contribute to identify relevant policy issues, write policy notes, and brief the Board in topics of her/his expertise.

The Economic Analysis Department is part of the Monetary Policy Division. The department currently employs four PhD economists graduated from U.S. universities, as well as four Master-level research assistants who collaborate with the research projects and macroeconomic analysis. Funding for travelling and a large inflow of visitors throughout the year ensure strong international exposure. The Bank currently employs more than 40 PhD graduates in its different departments.

Applicants should have a PhD in Economics or equivalent by September 2020. Experienced, already graduated PhD economists with a solid research agenda are also encouraged to apply at the Senior Economist level.

Areas of interest include international macroeconomics and finance, trade, labor economics, and firm networks and dynamics, but applicants with other interests related to macroeconomics and finance are also encouraged to apply. Well-developed soft skills are required. Proficiency in Spanish is not required but would be an asset.

The position will be full time, open ended, and offers an internationally competitive salary and benefit package.
