The Office of Tax Analysis (OTA) anticipates staff openings in 2020 for economists with a strong interest in conducting applied research, modeling and analysis to assess the effects of current and proposed Federal tax policies. OTA is responsible for official Administration estimates of all Federal receipts. OTA staff work with an experienced staff of tax attorneys to design legislative proposals, to implement current tax law, and to formulate and review tax regulations. OTA staff also engage in discussions with other agencies and participate in meetings of international organizations.

OTA economists play a key role in shaping Federal tax policy by assessing the economic and revenue effects of current and proposed Federal tax policies, which cover numerous domestic and international policy areas, including business formation, choice of business organizational form, tax accounting, savings and investment, pensions, Social Security, financial institutions and products, labor, health, housing, the environment, energy, and international trade and investment flows. Staff members are encouraged to publish and present their tax policy research findings in professional journals and in academic and professional settings.

For more information on the work done by the OTA staff, see https://home.treasury.gov/policy-issues/tax-policy.

A Ph.D. or equivalent experience in economics, statistics finance, or related disciplines; strong research and communication skills; and U.S. citizenship are required. OTA will be interviewing at the 2020 ASSA Annual Meeting.
