The Economic Research Service (ERS), United States Department of Agriculture, anticipates having positions available for applicants with strong research skills. The ERS mission is to inform and enhance public and private decision making on economic and policy issues related to agriculture, food, the environment, and rural development. With over 200 economists, ERS is a primary source of economic information and research in the USDA. ERS economists conduct timely, policy-relevant research on such issues as childhood obesity, international markets and trade, Asian markets, health and nutrition, prices and industrial organization of food and commodity markets, farming risk and resilience, conservation programs, linkages between agricultural and environmental policies, rural economic development, agricultural productivity and technology use, farm finance, big data and behavioral economics. At ERS you'll find satisfaction in conducting rigorous and objective research on issues that matter in a collaborative and challenging environment. Positions are anticipated in one or more of the following specializations:

--food safety
-- consumer e c o n o m i c s (behavioral economics, diet and health)
--food markets, prices, and industrial organization;
--food and nutrition assistance
--farm income and finance;
--farm production and policy;
--agri-environmental policy;
--land use;
--rural economics;
--trade policy and modeling;
--international trade and Asian markets
--food safety
--risk management; and
--commodity analysis (crops and livestock, including organics).
