Full Text of JOE Listing:

This is a full-time research assistant position for a highly skilled, motived individual looking to work for two years on topics in health economics and child welfare. Projects come in two types: planning, monitoring, and analyzing prospective randomized controlled trials of changes in the ways healthcare is delivered. This includes studying ways to encourage healthier behaviors among patients, including addressing social determinants of health (e.g. food security, housing stability, employment), and understanding how providers make decisions. The second type of research project uses large datasets, typically Medicare claims data, to measure provider quality.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree. In addition, the ideal candidate will have (i), a strong quantitative background, (ii) strong computer skills including programming, (iii) be able to work independently, (iv) and have a long-term interest in pursuing a PhD in economics. Background in economics is a plus, but not necessary – we welcome candidates with strong technical backgrounds who are looking for more exposure to economics. Prior research assistant experience is strongly preferred. Excellent grades are required. The job is ideal for someone with an enthusiasm for empirical research, and the ability and interest to learn new skills and take initiative as a project develops.
