Background

The School of Arts & Social Sciences is an internationally excellent centre of research and learning on the human condition in all its dimensions. It is a large and vibrant School with around 3,000 students (one third postgraduate) and over 250 staff in seven Departments: Economics, English, International Politics, Journalism, Music, Sociology and Psychology. The School aims to attract outstanding members of academic staff who will produce world-leading and internationally excellent research of benefit to society; provide innovative and exciting programmes of study; and enrich the lives and enhance the career prospects of its students.

Responsibilities

The Department of Economics is a leading centre for research and undergraduate and postgraduate education. It has strengths in core research in experimental and behavioural economics; financial economics and econometrics; health economics; macroeconomics; and microeconomics. The Department delivers a growing PhD Programme, alongside its highly successful BSc and MSc programmes and is part of the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) Doctoral Training Partnerships funded by the ESRC.

The Department is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic as Lecturer in Economics.

Person Specification

The appointed Lecturer will have a record of producing world-leading or internationally excellent research and the commitment and capability to deliver high quality education. You should have a strong research agenda in Economics, with a clear publication plan for submissions for future REF programmes. You will contribute to the delivery of the Department’s curriculum in Health Economics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. While those with interests in the broader field of economics are welcome to apply, the Department is particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates researching in the specialist area of Health Economics.
