Background
Saint Louis University invites applications for the Director of the Sinquefield Center for Applied Economics Research (SCAER) in the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business. SCAER was founded in 2018 by a generous grant from the Sinquefield Center for Research, Inc. Founded in 1818, Saint Louis University is a Catholic-Jesuit Institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care and service. Center Description:
The working mission of the Sinquefield Center for Applied Economics Research is to engage in rigorous research on economic growth and social welfare that can help inform public policy. Affiliated scholars will apply the tools of modern economics to evaluate current public policies. Of particular interest are issues pertaining to urban economic development. To this end, the Center encourages a broad range of applied economic research topics including, but not limited to, taxation, education, health, housing, poverty, environment, financial literacy, and water resource management. These topics will relate foremost to local and state economic issues such as economic development for St. Louis City and its surrounding community.

Position Responsibilities:
The Founding Director will work with a university steering committee to help refine the mission of the Center and to develop its strategic plan and report to the Dean of the Chaifetz School of Business. Responsibilities will include developing a depth of expertise/research in key areas of the mission and marketing of the Center; collaborate with local, state and national organizations, and government agencies to develop agreements to warehouse and develop databases that will in turn allow the Center to achieve its mission. The Director will also work with the steering committee to recruit post-docs and/or visiting faculty to assist the Center in advancing its research mission. The Director is further expected to work as part of a team with faculty, students and staff throughout the University to foster interdisciplinary collaboration in fulfilling the Center's mission. The Director will also be responsible for working to secure partnerships and research grants in areas consistent with the mission of the Center.

Qualifications:
Candidates for the position are required to have a Ph.D. in Economics. To be considered, applicants will possess excellent research skills, experience in leading large interdisciplinary research projects, as well as a proven publication record in applied economic research. The successful candidate will also have proven ability to garner external funding for research, effective communication both verbally and orally, and prior experience working cooperatively with government agencies and private industry. The Director should also have successful experience in translating research for broader dissemination to policymakers.
