The predecessor of the PBC School of Finance was the Graduate School of the People's Bank of China, established in 1981 by the People's Bank of China. With the approval of the Ministry of Education, the People's Bank of China collaborated with the leading Chinese university, Tsinghua University, to establish the PBC School of Finance, Tsinghua University on the 29th of March, 2012.

Tsinghua University National Institute of Financial Research - Center for International Finance and Economics Research (CIFER) was established in November 2017 as an academic and policy research institution that focuses on international finance, international trade and empirical industrial organization.

Applicants for post-doctoral research fellow should have completed a Ph.D. or plan to graduate by June 2019 from an accredited institution, have a strong evidence of high research potential to produce high-quality academic or policy research in the fields of international trade, international finance / open macroeconomics and empirical industrial organization.
