The Department of Economics of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University invites applications for a full-time three-year appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics beginning in August 2019. Review of applications begins immediately and continues until March 1, 2019.

We are seeking an economist who specializes in empirical labor economics. Candidates who explicitly consider the economics of gender, race, and/or ethnicity will be preferred. The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester, which will include the department’s one-semester Introduction to Economics course (ECON 111), Labor Economics (ECON 353), Quantitative Methods in Economics (ECON 334), and Introduction to Econometrics (ECON 350). The candidate will also teach courses such as Political Economy of Gender and Race (ECON 325) or a course new to the department that fits with departmental and institutional goals. The candidate may have the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary programs, such as Asian Studies, Gender Studies, Latino/Latin American Studies, and the McCarthy Center for Public Policy and Civic Engagement.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Economics by August 15, 2019. Applicants must also demonstrate successful scholarship in economics and a commitment to professional growth in economic scholarship. Applicants must have taught at least two semester-length, undergraduate economics courses as the instructor of record in face-to-face classrooms. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in teaching one-semester introductory economics courses, undergraduate labor economics, and statistics and/or econometrics. Preferred candidates will demonstrate strong teaching skills that include the ability to employ effective pedagogies in small classroom settings. Applicants must have effective written and oral communication skills, demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusion and the desire to work with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds, and demonstrate the ability to adapt teaching in response to constructive feedback from students and/or peers.

The College of Saint Benedict (CSB), a liberal arts college for women, and Saint John’s University (SJU), a liberal arts college for men, are located in the central lakes area of Minnesota.
