The Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for two faculty positions in the fields of macroeconomics and monetary economics, financial economics, or microeconomics (or closely related field) with an emphasis in public choice or political economy. The faculty positions will entail a tenure-track appointment at the assistant/associate professor rank in the Department of Economics and Finance in the Jennings A. Jones College of Business with expectations for teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in the Jones College of Business and the University Honors College. They will also be expected to mentor undergraduate and graduate student research and serve on PhD dissertation and undergraduate thesis committees. Ideal candidates will have a strong commitment to both excellent teaching and research.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate their ability to advance the PERI’s mission as it is stated below. The ideal candidate will conduct policy-relevant research, be able to advise undergraduate and graduate PERI fellows, and participate in PERI programming, media outreach, and grant writing. In addition to performing other appropriate service to the PERI, these faculty members will be expected to provide service to the department, college, university, and profession.

MTSU is an R3 institution as classified by the Carnegie Foundation (Doctoral University—Moderate Research Activity), with over 20,000 students, located in Murfreesboro, 35 miles southeast of Nashville, the Tennessee state capital. The university offers, through eight colleges and 39 academic departments, baccalaureate instruction in the liberal and fine arts, the sciences, education, business, media and entertainment, and a variety of other fields. Established in late 2016, the Political Economic Research Institute is a joint venture between the Jennings A. Jones College of Business and the University Honors College. The mission of the institute is to engage undergraduate and graduate students with faculty in research that will further the understanding of business and economics principles, as well as their impact on regional, national, and international financial conditions and the well-being of society. To advance its mission, the PERI will engage in research and educational programs which uncover the institutions and policies that encourage and enhance human well-being.
