Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Washington Center for Equitable Growth is a nonprofit research and grantmaking organization dedicated to advancing evidence-backed ideas and policies that promote strong, stable, and broad-based economic growth. Equitable Growth engages with academics and policymakers to better understand economic inequality in the United States and its impact on economic growth. Important elements of Equitable Growth’s mission include in-house, academic-quality research and grantmaking to academic economists and other social scientists to support new research on inequality, mobility, growth, and related issues. Building a stronger bridge between academics and the policy community and elevating researchers and their work with the news media are both key to our work, with the goal of making new research relevant, accessible, and informative to the policymaking process.

The Center has an immediate opening for a macroeconomist who can both conduct original research and provide analysis of academic research on how macroeconomic policy tools can ensure the economy works for everyone and reduce the impact of economic downturns.

Responsibilities:
-Lead Equitable Growth’s work on macroeconomics, including the macroeconomic causes and consequences of inequality, fiscal and monetary policy, productivity, and unemployment
-Provide guidance to and collaborate with Equitable Growth’s work to link microeconomic research and policy recommendations with macroeconomic research and policy recommendations
-Support scholars in and beyond the Equitable Growth network who are working on macroeconomic topics by identifying policy-relevant research questions, collaborating on research projects, and translating research findings into accessible guidance for policymakers
-Represent Equitable Growth to the media, policymakers, and other outside stakeholders
-Attend academic conferences and maintain relationships with the academic community and other professional economists and policymakers
-Select topics and provide intellectual leadership for one to two major academic and policy conferences, workshops, or similar events per year
-Support Equitable Growth’s annual competitive grant program and commissioned research series by providing intellectual guidance, solicitations, and review as necessary
-Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
-Ph.D. in economics or related field
-5+ years of experience engaged in macroeconomic research or policymaking
-Proven ability to apply academic economics research to policy questions
-Proven ability to communicate evidence-based policy guidance to key stakeholders, including policymakers, advocates, and the media
-Strong understanding of the academic and policymaking communities
-Strong written and verbal communication skills
-Commitment to Equitable Growth’s mission and goals

The Washington Center for Equitable Growth is actively committed to promoting and maintaining the importance of diversity to its work. We encourage everyone across the spectrums of race, ethnicity, nationality, ability, age, gender identity and expression, educational background, sexual orientation, and religion to apply.
