Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Bank Policy Institute invites applications for the position of Senior Economist in its Research Department.

The Bank Policy Institute (BPI) is a nonpartisan public policy, research and advocacy group, representing the nation’s leading banks. Our members include universal banks, regional banks and the major foreign banks doing business in the United States. Collectively, they employ nearly 2 million Americans, make more than 70% of all loans and nearly half of the nation’s small business loans and serve as an engine for financial innovation and economic growth.

The research department is a dynamic team that produces top quality research on issues relating to banking regulation and supervision, financial markets, monetary policy, and consumer issues. The research is communicated through publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at conferences, as well as research notes and blog posts published on BPI's website intended for a non-academic but well-informed audience.

The senior economist position would provide substantial research time, and a successful candidate would be expected to present at top academic conferences and publish in top-tier journals. The senior economist is also expected to contribute to the Department's higher frequency communications on related matters intended for a broader audience. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the juncture between bank regulations and consumer finance.

Basic qualifications and requirements are a PhD in economics or finance, a strong interest in policy-oriented research and analysis; drive to deliver high-quality, cutting-edge research relevant to the supervision and regulation of banks in an environment of informed and thoughtful public debate; excellent technical and communication skills. An already well-established research agenda is highly desirable.
