We are seeking an economist who specializes in microeconomics and quantitative policy analysis. A focus in environmental or public economics is preferred. The successful candidate will regularly teach Principles of Economics, Intermediate Microeconomic Theory, advanced courses in the candidate’s specialization, and, periodically, the department’s capstone course. Applicants must hold a PhD in Economics (or have one by September 1, 2019, at the latest). They are required to have a specialization in microeconomics and quantitative policy analysis. A subspecialty in environmental or public economics is preferred. Applicants must have strong teaching skills, effective written and oral communication skills, a strong commitment to inclusion and the desire to work with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds, a strong commitment to undergraduate education and liberal arts education, including a strong interest in linking economics to larger human questions inside and outside the discipline. Candidates must have strong research skills, a willingness to work with colleagues in & outside the department, and experience in working constructively with peers. Applicants must have a commitment to professional growth in teaching and growth in scholarship.

Applications must include a cover letter, CV, statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching effectiveness, a sample of research, copy of graduate transcripts (official transcripts will be required for interviews), and contact information (both phone and email) for three references.
Please prepare your cover letter so that it addresses how your education and interests qualify you for this position, how your past teaching and/or work experience prepare you for successful teaching in an undergraduate classroom. Explain how your previous experience prepares you for collaborative work with colleagues within economics and across departments. Explain how you see your current research as preparing you for this position and how you see your growth as a scholar in your future career.

Your statement of teaching philosophy should explain how you understand what a college teacher aims to do and why. In this, be sure to address your views related to the following qualifications: a strong commitment to inclusion and the desire to work with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds, a strong commitment to undergraduate education, a strong commitment to liberal arts education, and a commitment to professional growth in teaching.
