The Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations (LPO) in Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College and the Program in Public Policy Studies within the College of Arts and Science at Vanderbilt University invite applications for two joint faculty positions: 1) a tenured associate or full professor position; and 2) an assistant professor on the tenure track, for which both new and advanced assistant professor candidates are encouraged to apply.

Ideal candidates will show evidence of substantive interest in a true joint appointment between LPO and an Arts and Science department such as economics, political science, or sociology. The primary tenure home (and, for the junior candidate, the primary evaluation unit for the tenure decision) will be either in LPO or in an A&S department, chosen in consultation with the candidate. Both positions will carry appointments with the Program in Public Policy Studies.
We seek applicants whose research employs quantitative methods to address questions of fundamental importance to public policy at the local, state, and federal levels in the areas of education, human capital accumulation, labor/workforce outcomes, human development, and/or health. For one of the positions, we seek a scholar whose research focuses on education and human and economic development in international settings and contexts.

Senior candidates should have a strong record of accomplishment and a history of working collaboratively with colleagues and students. Senior candidates should also have an exemplary record of teaching, research, and service that includes mentoring and training future researchers within his/her research projects. A successful external funding record is expected for senior candidates; for junior candidates, the potential for the research agenda to attract external funding is a plus.

The mission of the Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations is to understand and improve the political, economic, organizational, and social contexts in which human learning takes place. The department embraces a range of disciplinary traditions and encourages multiple methodological approaches in the study of education policy and practice. The department operates highly regarded masters, Ed.D., and Ph.D. programs in K-12, international, and higher education leadership and policy, as well as an undergraduate major in Human and Organizational Development. These programs are ranked among the highest in the nation.

The mission of the Program in Public Policy Studies is to prepare students to be informed and engaged consumers and producers of public policy through rigorous training in social science and social context, exposure and access to top public policy researchers and scholars, and a deep commitment to creating positive and lasting change. The Program is in the midst of exciting and substantial growth, naming a Director and hiring two tenure-track faculty in the past year and engaging in this trans-institutional search for two new faculty positions. The Program offers an undergraduate major in the College of Arts and Sciences and seeks to grow trans-institutionally in the near future. The new faculty hired under this program have the potential to play a strong role in the program’s future direction.
