A search at the Associate Professor level in Global Political Economy/Development Practice. The expectation is that after a transitional period (commensurate with experience) this hire will serve as the Young Initiative Chair on the Global Political Economy, directing the use of its generously endowed fund.

We are looking for applicants who have powerfully demonstrated an ambitious research and practice agenda that can be translated into innovative Young Initiative programming (current Young programming includes both working with the Los Angeles mayor’s office to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals into city-wide policies and initiatives in the field of Social Entrepreneurship). We are particularly interested in applicants whose research and practice agenda focuses on areas such as the Sustainable Development Goals; Human Rights-based Approaches to Economic Development; and/or Equity/Equality in Economic Development (with reference to race, class, identity, and/or gender). Priority will be given to applicants who have demonstrated a research and practice that leverages substantial fieldwork with international or regional organizations, transnational NGOs, and/or entities working in major urban cities or in a regional context. A complete application will include the following materials: (1) a cover letter that details the interest in teaching at Occidental and the goals of the Young Initiative on the Global Political Economy; (2) potential initiatives as part of the Young Initiative committee and as its eventual Chair; (3) a discussion of the applicant’s academic research, field practice, teaching experience, and program development; (4) a statement of teaching philosophy that includes a discussion of demonstrated commitment to, past evidence of, and future plans for creating equitable opportunities for learning and mentoring especially for underrepresented students; (5) a list and brief descriptions of courses the applicant could teach at Oxy; (6) scholarly work sample; (7) Curriculum Vitae; and (8) three confidential letters of recommendation, with at least one attesting to your teaching; letters must be sent by recommenders.
