CBO, a nonpartisan agency that provides economic, policy, and budgetary analysis to the Congress, is looking for a financial modeler to forecast financial variables such as stock prices, interest rates, and housing-market variables. The focus of the Financial Analysis Division’s work is the risk and costs facing the federal government and how they can be mitigated through various policies.

The modeler must have a
• Graduate degree in finance or related quantitative field
• Strong experience with econometric programs such as Stata, SAS, R, MATLAB, or Python (SciPy or StatsModels).

Preferred skills:
• Knowledge of Asset Valuation Methods
• Experience
o Valuing Financial Risk;
o Using Large Data Sets; and
o Forecasting Financial Variables.

Analysts contribute to developing new studies and to designing and improving the state-of-the-art analytical models that underlie them while working in a collegial environment that provides opportunities for research on numerous topics relevant to the agency’s endeavors. They are also encouraged to turn projects and independent research into CBO working papers and outside publications.
