Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) anticipates recruiting Ph.D. economists in the spring of 2018 to fill a position in the Research Branch of the Balance of Payments Division. BEA’s mission is to promote a better understanding of the U.S. economy by providing the most timely, relevant, and accurate economic accounts data in an objective and cost-effective manner. BEA prepares national, regional, industry, and international accounts that present essential information on such key issues as economic growth, regional economic development, interindustry relationships, and the Nation's position in the world economy. To achieve our mission objectives, we need highly qualified economists equipped to develop new and innovative approaches to economic measurement that keep pace with the dynamic global economy.

Work in the international economic accounts area involves research and analysis on international finance and investment, trade in goods and services, and the activities of multinational enterprises. A successful candidate will conduct independent research on topics of importance to BEA’s mission and will be expected to publish that research in professional journals as well as present at conferences. We will consider candidates conducting research in any field, although those who have demonstrated experience with empirical research involving international trade or finance or using large data sets are preferred.

Starting salaries range from $68,036 to $148,967 per year, depending on experience and education. A curriculum vitae, a sample of written work, and three letters of recommendation are required. Submit application materials through JOE. We will post a formal job announcement on USAJOBS in late March or early April. Candidates Must* be U.S. citizens. BEA is an equal opportunity employer. Please send inquiries about the positions to assa@bea.gov.
