Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Payment Cards Center (PCC) is seeking candidates with expertise in consumer finance and payments who are interested in conducting applied research on these markets. Qualified candidates may come from industry, academia, government, consulting, or nonprofits.

The PCC is a key contributor to the Consumer Finance Institute (CFI), a Bank wide initiative that harnesses the expertise of more than 60 researchers and visiting scholars to serve as a catalyst for informing economic policy. The CFI mission is to pursue next generation research and to foster healthy household finances, a stable financial system, and a resilient economy. (https://www.philadelphiafed.org/consumer-finance-institute)
The candidate’s job grade will be commensurate with their experience, skills, and education.

Job Description:
A successful candidate combines knowledge of the subject matter, an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, strong analytic skills, and a desire to conduct self-directed research. Working with PCC management, industry specialists are expected to develop their own agenda for research and programming.
While much of the PCC’s written output is directed to a general audience, the PCC also produces technical papers suitable for publication in the best academic journals. The PCC provides resources, such as data, computing access to coauthors, and travel funds to facilitate high-quality research publications.
Each year an industry specialist is expected to produce several papers (including a mix of original research and summaries of PCC events) and organize several workshops. Approximately every other year, he or she will lead the organization of a larger conference. Industry specialists present the results of their research at conferences directed toward industry, policy, and academic audiences. Specialists may also assist in briefings for senior management of the Bank and for policymakers.
Requirements:

Due to sensitive information, applicants for employment must be a U.S. citizen, or hold a permanent U.S. resident green card with the intent to become a U.S. citizen.
Minimum requirements for the position include extensive knowledge of consumer finance and payments obtained through three or more years of relevant work experience. An undergraduate degree is required, but an advanced degree in a field such as economics, finance, business, public policy, law, or statistics is strongly preferred. Additional formal training (such as a Ph.D.) will be taken into account when evaluating a candidate’s relevant experience. Candidates should have demonstrated writing, presentation, and analytical skills.

About the Payment Cards Center:
The PCC carries out its mission through an agenda of applied research and analysis, as well as workshops and conferences that encourage dialogue incorporating industry, consumer, academic, nonprofit, and public-sector perspectives. The PCC collaborates with researchers in other parts of the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank, including staff in the Economic Research, Consumer Development Studies and Education, and Supervision, Regulation, and Credit.
