Full Text of JOE Listing:

Goucher College invites applications for a tenure-track position with a focus in Data Science/Analytics. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. by the start date of August 2018.

The Center for Data, Mathematical, and Computational Sciences seeks a colleague who enjoys working in a diverse and international community of learners, and, especially, has a passion for pedagogical and curricular innovation within the liberal arts. In addition, the professor in this position will assist in launching a new interdisciplinary program in Data Science or Data Analytics, and to help further develop the College’s Data Analytics graduation requirement. This will give the professor opportunities to collaborate with those in other disciplines on Data Science curriculum development and research projects. Consequently, candidates must have significant experience in Data Science/Analytics or actively engage in research that utilizes and develops advanced data analysis techniques. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other related fields which significantly emphasize data analysis techniques. The teaching load is five courses per year.

As a tenure-track position, ongoing scholarly research, and service to the center and college are expected. Candidates must have a clearly articulated research program related to Data Analytics which accommodates undergraduate research experiences in the liberal arts setting. Goucher College faculty currently have access to multiple well-funded curriculum and research grants, including summer undergraduate research programs, a vast array of professional development programs within the college’s Center for the Advancement of Scholarship and Teaching, and are eligible for a pre-tenure research leave following a successful third-year review.

Goucher College endeavors to be a model teaching and learning community, where faculty and students are engaged with one another in learning both inside and outside of the traditional classroom. We seek candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to students from diverse backgrounds and a dedication to engaged pedagogies that support equity and student success. We encourage candidates who are committed to student-centered teaching and learning who are also engaged scholars eager to contribute to the intellectual life of the college and the future of the liberal arts. Application materials should clearly articulate how the candidate will contribute to the college’s commitment to diversity and equity.

To ensure full consideration, applications should be complete by February 16, 2018.
