The department has significant data resources including the New York City Clinical Data Research Network which includes clinical data from six New York City health systems (Columbia, Mount Sinai, Montefiore, New York Presbyterian, New York University and Weill Cornell Medicine) and 3 FQHCs resulting in a secure data repository consisting of clinical records for 7 million unique patients and 60 million encounters, public and private claims data, and social determinant data. In addition, we have Medicare data and Health Care Cost Institute data from major national insurers including Aetna, Humana, Kaiser and United Healthcare covering 50+ million individuals. Finally we host a state of the art computing environment, the Data Core, that serves as a secure platform for data analysis and includes extensive state and national data available for reuse.

Led by Dr. Rainu Kaushal, the department has a pioneer research team focusing on high need, high cost patients (HNHC). The candidate will be working on projects about identifying HNHC patients in Medicare, Medicaid, and commercially insured populations; incorporating individual- and community- level social determinants of health data to define HNHC patients; aligning and evaluating care models for HNHC patient groups; applying our HNHC patient framework to help hospitals, health systems, and insurers improve health care delivery.
