Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Pennsylvania State University, College of the Liberal Arts, seeks applicants for a Professor of Public Policy and Director of the Public Policy Program starting on July 1, 2018. The College of the Liberal Arts at Penn State is developing a public policy program, including plans for a Master of Public Policy program (MPP) now under curricular review. The proposed MPP program is to be an on-campus, two-year degree designed to be affiliated with APPAM and to be accredited by NASPAA to take advantage of the considerable substantive policy expertise uniquely available on the University Park campus. The planned MPP program will recruit approximately 30 students per year, with a projected start in fall, 2019. The proposed MPP core curriculum is designed to rely on and to reflect the disciplinary expertise of the departments within the College of the Liberal Arts. The policy specialization curriculum will draw heavily - via close collaboration - from existing courses on substantive issue-areas already available both in the College of the Liberal Arts and across the University. These specializations include health policy, criminal justice policy, labor and employment policy, children and family policy, information science policy, and public policy analysis, as well as several additional tracks still being developed. Qualified applicants will have a doctoral degree in a social science discipline, such as political science, sociology, economics, psychology, labor relations, or public policy, with research and/or practical work experience related to the theory and practice of public policy and commensurate with a tenured appointment and leadership role in an MPP Program. The Director will report to the Dean of the College of the Liberal Arts and will lead the establishment of and then continue to manage the public policy program, with duties/opportunities including: recruiting several new faculty positions to staff the program, hiring and directing the support staff, recruiting its first class of students, and working with partner departments in implementing the proposed MPP curriculum. To learn more about the proposed MPP Program including about the curriculum and course proposals now in process, visit www.publicpolicy.psu.edu or email Professor David Lowery at mailto:dlowery@psu.edu. The salary of the Director will be competitive, and, depending on qualifications, a candidate may be eligible for a named professorship appointment. Applications should include a cover letter, vitae/resume, the names/addresses of three references, and a scholarly/professional writing sample. Review of materials will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
