The Black School of Business of Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is seeking qualified applicants for a non-tenure track, renewable, fixed-term appointment in economics. This position will be at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor starting August 2018. A Ph.D. or ABD is preferred (candidates with an appropriate Master's degree and a strong teaching record may be considered). Fields are open, but high-quality teaching is required and an active program of scholarship is expected. Candidates for this position will also have the opportunity to contribute to the College's Economic Research Institute of Erie (ERIE) www.ERIEdata.org. ERIE is an applied research unit of the Black School that currently functions to support the Erie regional economy through outreach programs and grants while also engaging the business community through a broad scope of projects.

The Black School of Business is accredited by AACSB International, listed among the Best Business Schools by Princeton Review and offers nine undergraduate majors, a part time/evening MBA program delivered at two locations, a Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc), and an online Master of Project Management (MPM) program. The School has a focus on interdisciplinary programs such as the Interdisciplinary Business & Engineering Studies degree, one of only a few such distinctive programs in the country, the MPM program, and an International Business degree that also allows students to specialize in a functional area such as business economics or finance.

The Black School of Business shares a new $30 million facility with the School of Engineering providing a basis for multi-disciplinary educational experience for students, interdisciplinary research for faculty, and joint opportunities for industry engagement. The $20 million dollar endowment, market value of which is approximately $33 million today, provides significant support for the School's programs. The endowment helps fund undergraduate scholarships, graduate assistantships, library and information technology resources, outreach activities, several faculty chairs and endowed professorships, as well as new programming initiatives.

Teaching Responsibilities: The appointment will be made at the rank of lecturer or assistant teaching professor depending on qualifications. The teaching assignment is equivalent to 24 credits per academic year. Teaching will include multiple sections of introductory microeconomics or macroeconomics with the possibility to teach upper-level undergraduate courses based on the candidate's field of expertise.

Research Support: Includes full access to major statistical packages and databases, as well as funded travel to professional meetings.

Salary: Negotiable and competitive with other AACSB-accredited schools of business.

Location: Students and faculty enjoy the beauty of the college`s 854-acre campus, located only minutes away from the heart of Pennsylvania`s fourth-largest city. Metropolitan Erie is a major industrial service center with a population of approximately 280,000 and is the home of several major corporations. Erie, as well as Buffalo, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh - all within two hours by interstate highway - provide excellent consulting opportunities as well as recreational and cultural activities. Housing costs in Erie are modest.
