The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, founded in 1908, is a premier global business school known for its distinctive approach to thought leadership, particularly in marketing and general management, as well as its courageous and supportive “high impact/low ego” culture among its students, faculty and administrators.

Kellogg's Public-Private Initiative works to identify, understand, and impact the larger issues in which business operates and leaders navigate. The area engages economic, financial, and healthcare institutions; informs policy with groundbreaking research; proactively convenes conversations across business, government, and society; and teaches and models skills leading to real social impact.

Global Poverty Research Lab:
Northwestern University's Buffet Institute launched the Global Poverty Research Lab in the summer of 2017 by Northwestern University faculty members Dean Karlan (Finance, Kellogg) and Chris Udry (Economics, Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences). The Lab is a collaborative research center that uses empirical evidence to address the challenges of overcoming poverty and to improve well-being in the developing world. It will become an academic hub for empirical development economics. In addition to building research infrastructure and engaging in advocacy and policy outreach, the Center will organize itself around several research clusters as well as clusters focused on financial inclusion and social protection.

Mission:
•To support activities on campus and abroad, including cluster-focused research that will be oriented both geographically—starting off with Ghana and the Philippines—and around sectors like financial inclusion and social protection
•To work closely with Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), a research and policy nonprofit founded by Karlan that discovers and promotes effective solutions to global poverty problems
•To provide Northwestern undergraduate and graduate students with opportunities to work as research assistants, go into the field to do research abroad, and develop skills and competencies to become full-time contributors to the Lab's work after graduation
•To build better research infrastructure, such as methodological work on survey design, data depository, electronic data collection tools, application development for staff management and behavior modification, and big data tools and servers
•To pursue questions about how to improve the research process, such as how to best conduct surveys and hire surveyors

The Opportunity:
The Kellogg School of Management and the Global Poverty Research Lab, Buffett Institute at Northwestern University invite applications and nominations for an open-rank clinical and research faculty dual-appointment position. This position involves a combination of teaching within the Kellogg Public-Private Interface Initiative (KPPI), curriculum development, administration and research.

As a member of the Global Poverty Research Lab, this position would work to develop better methodological resources for faculty and students at the Lab, on campus, and in the larger development community. Extensive collaboration is expected to conduct research on methods questions such as survey design, field survey management, and other issues related to data collection. Such collaboration should lead to academic publications and also better resources in general for the development community. Extensive collaboration is expected with Innovations for Poverty Action in order to work to see that lessons learned from the research are put into practice, to support development research globally.

Primary selection criteria include a commitment to teaching excellence, an ability to enhance the areas teaching portfolio, publication record that uses primary data collection, and experience conducting surveys and experiments in the field. A PhD in economics, public policy, political science, or methods-related disciplines such as survey methods. A degree must be in hand or expected by employment start date.
