With more than 7,500 students, the Triple Crown accredited University of Auckland Business School is one of the largest and most successful in the Australasian region. The University's ranking in the top 100 of the 2018 QS World Universities Ranking confirms both its status as New Zealand's pre-eminent research-led university and its place amongst the top 1% of universities worldwide.

The Department of Economics is the leading Economics Department in New Zealand. It is internationally diverse and has an especially strong collegial culture. Faculty members are extremely active; publishing in the best international journals, engaging in high-level policy debate, attracting external funding, and supervising postgraduates.

The Department has notable strengths in Microeconomics, International Economics, and Econometrics. There are 20 full-time Faculty members and the Department offers a comprehensive undergraduate teaching programme, covering most areas in economics. A vibrant and expanding cohort of Masters and PhD students makes for a lively research environment. There are ample opportunities for collaboration both within the Department, in the Business School, as well as across the wider University.

While the Department welcomes applications from all areas of economics, we are especially interested in hearing from scholars working in the areas of:

• open economy macroeconomics and international finance, and
• trade and development
• health economics.

The successful candidate will play a leading role in the research and teaching life of the Department; helping to attract, retain and mentor a group of highly motivated junior colleagues who demonstrate excellence in research and teaching. You will also be expected to play a major role towards increasing the impact and relevance of the Department, both within New Zealand and internationally.

• an outstanding record of scholarship and publication, as well as a continuing programme of research
• a strong commitment to high quality research-led and innovative teaching and graduate supervision
• a track record of successfully competing for external funding
• evidence of leadership and impact – both within and beyond the academy
• enthusiasm and energy for building opportunities and capturing synergies from disciplinary and interdisciplinary research and teaching programmes.
