The Economics Department at Colby College invites applications for two open rank, any field positions starting September 1, 2018.

We are searching for early to mid-career economists with a potential for excellence in teaching and research. Applicants specializing in macroeconomics, environmental economics, and labor economics are particularly welcome to apply, though all fields will be given full consideration. For both positions we seek candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of Colby’s academic community through their scholarship, teaching, mentorship, and service. We especially encourage applications from underrepresented groups in economics and are looking for candidates who can engage and support students from different cultural, demographic, and socio-economic backgrounds.

We are interested in candidates who can add breadth to our curriculum by offering courses that align with their research area. In particular, Colby faculty members regularly offer senior seminar courses in their field of expertise in which students read academic articles and engage in semester-long research projects. The successful candidate will also contribute to our core curriculum. Colby offers generous research and travel funds, a year-long pre-tenure sabbatical after the third year, and department-funded student research and teaching assistants.

Colby is a highly selective liberal arts college located in central Maine with high standards for teaching and research. Our students are motivated, intellectually curious, and easily engaged in the classroom and in independent research. We are a collegial department with twelve faculty who all have active research agendas generously supported by the College. We offer additional support through endowed department funds for data acquisition, a regular seminar series, invited speakers and research collaborators, an annual conference for Maine economists, and student engagement in and outside the classroom.

Our review of completed applications will begin on November 1, 2017. To be considered for an interview at the January 2018 ASSA meetings in Philadelphia your application dossier must include: a cover letter that describes your motivation for applying to Colby and includes an outline of your research agenda and how a liberal arts environment aligns with your teaching philosophy; your curriculum vitae; three letters of recommendation; a representative sample of your scholarship; your graduate transcript; and evidence of classroom teaching effectiveness. Candidates for each position should have a completed Ph.D. prior to September 1, 2018.
