Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) – Law and Economics

The Faculty of Law at Western University invites applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Law and Economics. The successful applicant will be appointed to a Probationary (tenure-track) position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor or a Tenured position at the rank of Associate Professor. Rank will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience. Anticipated start date for the appointment will be July 1, 2018, although alternative start dates may be arranged.

Western Law is committed to enhancing its research and teaching capacity in the field of law and economics. Over the past several years, our Law and Economics Seminar Series and other similar initiatives have attracted numerous world-renowned economists and law and economics scholars, including several recipients of the Nobel Prize in Economics, to lecture and teach at the Faculty.

In addition, Western Law participates in offering the interdisciplinary Masters degree in Financial Economics with the Departments of Economics and Statistical and Actuarial Sciences and the Ivey School of Business. Western Law was also involved in establishing the interdisciplinary Centre for Financial Innovation and Risk Management, together with the Ivey School of Business and the Faculty of Social Science.

We are seeking a successful scholar who can provide leadership in the field of law and economics and enhance our related interdisciplinary research and academic programs.

The candidate for the Tier 2 CRC Chair will be an excellent emerging researcher who has demonstrated creativity and the potential to achieve international recognition in the field of law and economics in the next 5-10 years. The candidate will hold a PhD in Economics, and/or a JD or LLB or equivalent degree along with a relevant advanced graduate degree, or its equivalent. The nominee must be engaged in an original, innovative program of research, which would have the potential to attract excellent graduate students. Empirical research capabilities are an asset. In addition, the candidate should have the ability and willingness to contribute to the intellectual and scholarly life of the Faculty community and to the University more generally.
