The Smith Institute for Political Economy and Philosophy at Chapman University seeks to recruit one Assistant Professor (tenure-track) whose research interests include experimental economics, culture and economics, and/or political economy and one advanced Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure-track/tenured) whose research interests include economic history, beginning August 2018. The new faculty members will have appointments in the Argyros School of Business and Economics and will be affiliated with the Smith Institute for Political Economy and Philosophy.

Candidates at the Assistant Professor level should have completed their Ph.D. before August 2018, be engaged in a research program with the potential to influence their field, and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and advising. Candidates at the Associate Professor level should have demonstrated a significant influence on the profession by their research and publications and a commitment to teaching excellence.

The mission of the Smith Institute is to reintegrate the study of the humanities and economics in the spirit of Adam Smith, the author of The Theory of Moral Sentiments and An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, and to recombine research and undergraduate education as a discovery process in the spirit of Vernon Smith, the progenitor of experimental economics.
