Full Text of JOE Listing:

CBO seeks a manager to lead its Fiscal Policy Studies Unit, which analyzes the macroeconomic effects of federal fiscal policy and communicates estimates of those effects to the Congress.

Key responsibilities include identifying issues in fiscal policy that may require attention and research, providing leadership and direction in that research and in publishing the results, overseeing the development of economic models, and responding to requests from the Congress for information on and analysis of specific topics.

Collectively, CBO has devoted a significant effort to developing a variety of analytical tools for assessing the economic effects of changes in fiscal policies and for analyzing how such macroeconomic feedback affects the federal budget.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in economics and at least 7 years of experience (or a master’s degree with at least 10 years of experience) in analyzing the economic effects of fiscal and other policies. They must be familiar with state-of-the-art macroeconomic models used for policy analysis, such as general equilibrium and overlapping-generations models. Candidates must have a deep interest in contributing to the policy debate and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fluid policy environment.
