Research Fellows in Applied Development Finance

About the Engagement:
The Global Development Network (GDN) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have initiated an ambitious EIB-GDN Program in Applied Development Finance for tracking and deepening understanding of the results of selected investment operations of EIB's Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Impact Financing Envelope (IFE). For this partnership engagement, GDN will identify, train and deploy teams of research professionals in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) region to conduct evaluations of EIB projects with a view to deepening understanding of the development impacts of the IFE. The program will focus on issues such as regional integration, migration, and climate change adaptation and mitigation within the framework of Private Sector Development.

About the Positions:
GDN is seeking to induct, as Research Fellows, up to 10 research professionals from ACP countries to constitute the inaugural research team. The purpose of the Fellowships is to provide qualified young researchers interested in evaluation of Development Finance and Private Sector Development a practical opportunity to hone their impact assessment skills by working on real-world projects funded by one of the world’s leading financial institutions, under the guidance of top international experts in evaluation and impact assessment.

What We Are Looking For:
The program aims to fast track the professional development of researchers and research professionals in the field of evaluation and impact assessment. The ideal candidates should be first-rate, early career researchers or research professionals at universities, think tanks, government, development institutions, or in professional transition. THE FELLOWS WILL CONTINUE TO BE BASED IN THEIR OWN INSTITUTIONS. The typical profile of an inductee should be as follows:

1.Interest: Demonstrated interest in national and international development.
2.Age: Upto 35 years, with some relaxation for otherwise qualified candidates.
3.Academic training: Masters or PhD in a social scientific or related discipline with extensive quantitative training. Candidates majoring in engineering with significant exposure to the social sciences may also apply.
4.Subject matter knowledge: Significant professional experience or doctoral dissertation in evaluation and impact assessment.
5.Communication skills: Demonstrated professional written and oral communication skills in English. Preference will be given to candidates with written and spoken fluency in French and/or the relevant local language.
