CBO, a nonpartisan agency that provides Congress with the objective, timely analyses needed for economic and budgetary decisions, has openings for economists with excellent quantitative skills, strong writing ability, and an interest in working on issues of current legislative interest to the Congress.

Macroeconomist with a broad range of interests, including fiscal policy and public finance, to construct and improve cutting-edge models that underlie CBO’s policy analyses, prepare longer-term studies, and assess the dynamic effects of legislation.

Applied Microeconomist to conduct economic analyses and empirical research on federal tax policy issues, develop economic models, and write reports and testimony.

Revenue Analyst to develop baseline revenue estimates and estimates of revenue gains and losses from legislative proposals. They will also conduct empirical research on federal tax policy, undertake short-term analyses of legislative proposals, and prepare studies.

CBO analysts address challenging substantive issues in economics and public policy while working in a collegial environment that provides opportunities for research on numerous topics relevant to the agency’s endeavors. They are encouraged to pursue independent research related to CBO’s mission; present this work at conferences; and publish it in peer-reviewed journals.
