The Department of Economics invites applications for a two-year position beginning July 1, 2017 at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a candidate who has clearly demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and is prepared to teach introductory macroeconomics, intermediate macroeconomic theory, and one or more electives of their design in a range of fields, e.g., money & banking; international economics; international finance; environmental and/or natural resource economics. Ability to teach our Financial Economics (ECON 3301), a calculus-based introduction to modern portfolio theory and corporate finance, would be a plus. Teaching load is two courses each semester. Classes are all smaller than 40 students; many are smaller than that. Bowdoin values a commitment to research, a promise of successful scholarly engagement, and dedication to teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment. We prefer that requirements for the Ph.D. are completed at the time of appointment, but advanced ABDs will be considered.
Bowdoin College accepts only electronic submissions. Please visit to submit letter of application, including reasons for interest in the position and a brief description of teaching philosophy; curriculum vitae; evidence of teaching effectiveness; and the names and contact information for three references who have agreed to provide letters of recommendation upon request. Review of applications will begin on February 15, 2017 and continue until the position is filled.
