Full Text of JOE Listing:

The School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland seeks to hire a tenured Endowed Associate Professor, focused on philanthropy and nonprofit leadership, to start in the 2017/18 academic year. In addition to being a faculty member in the School, this individual will be one of multiple, new endowed faculty hired in the next several years focused on philanthropy and nonprofit management and affiliated with the School’s Do Good Institute (http://dogood.umd.edu/). Created in September 2016, the Do Good Institute builds on the momentum and foundational work of the School and its Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership (founded in 2012 and now expanded to become the Institute), which is already home to robust graduate offerings in philanthropy and nonprofit leadership, an expanding undergraduate curriculum, significant domestic and international applied learning experiences, a deep and innovative campus-wide approach to driving an entrepreneurial culture and practice of doing good, meaningful partnerships with NGOs and foundations locally and globally, and a commitment to research and dissemination that builds on and informs the work of doing good. The Do Good Institute serves as the campus-wide catalyst and hub of the University’s new Do Good Campus initiative and further extends this mission into the community. Support for this and other initiatives in the School of Public Policy is expected to top $75 million from individual and family philanthropy, state backing, corporate and foundation investment, and university resources.

Successful candidates should be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in nonprofit management and philanthropy, to contribute to the School's core curriculum in its undergraduate major and master’s degrees, to mentor Ph.D. students and junior faculty, and to complement the School's strengths in substantive policy areas. We are seeking a scholar with a robust research agenda, with research interests in the following areas: social enterprise/innovation, fundraising, or nonprofit/NGO leadership and management. A proclivity for collaboration is important, as well as the ability to contribute to a robust, generative research environment in our School. We are interested in individuals with local/domestic and global interests. Applicants who would enhance the diversity of the school, including women and minorities, are especially encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications: Those applying should have an earned doctorate in a relevant discipline, including but not limited to public policy, public administration, economics, political science, law, psychology or management, and should be able to meet the requirements of the School of Public Policy and the University of Maryland for a tenured associate professor.

Application materials should include a letter of interest describing the candidate’s qualifications, a curriculum vitae, contact information for at least three references, and a recent publication or writing sample.

To apply: Visit http://ejobs.umd.edu, locate the position announcement or visit https://ejobs.umd.edu/postings/47202 and apply online. Application materials sent outside of the online system will not be accepted. Questions concerning the application process may be addressed to Katharine Zang, at kzang@umd.edu. Review of applications will commence on December 1, but the position will remain open until filled. Prospective applicants are urged to contact the search chair, Angela Bies, bies@umd.edu, with any questions concerning the progress of the search.
