Full Text of JOE Listing:

The department of Economics, School of Economics, Business and Law at University of Gothenburg offers a research position at the newly created Centre for Collective Action Research (CeCAR). The department has today around 110 employees.

Job assignments:
The position mainly involves research, but there may also be some teaching/supervision assignments (maximum 20% of the time). The focus of the center is research on large-scale collective action, for example climate change and antibiotic resistance. The candidate is expected to contribute to the research within the center, and to take active part in the general work of the centre, e.g., by participating in joint meetings, seminars and conferences. The research can involve evaluation of current incentives and behavior, but also design of new incentive mechanisms. The work can be theoretical or empirical. We expect candidates to aim at publishing in leading or highly ranked journals.

There will be funds available for travel and shorter visits to other universities, as well as support for conducting experiments in the lab or in the field.

The two major fields in economics involved with the center are environmental and behavioral economics. The centre is a collaborative effort among several faculties and departments, which means that there is scope of interdisciplinary work. The main fields involved at the center are economics, political science, psychology, and philosophy specifically focusing on topics related to empirical and theoretical aspects of large-scale collective action.

The Department of Economics hosts a diverse and internationally renowned group of academic economists, including 14 full professors, six visiting professors, and about 40 assistant and associate professors and post-docs. The current core strengths are behavioral economics, development economics, environmental economics, financial economics, health economics, and labor economics. The behavioral economics group consists of researchers whose work focuses on the foundations of economic decision making with a focus on cooperative behavior, subjective well-being and valuation of non-market goods. Members of the group have recently published in high ranking general journals such as American Economic Review, Science, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of European Economic Association, Economic Journal, as well as in top field journals. Most of the research in environmental economics concerns climate, transport, industry and natural resource management. Members of the environmental economics group have recently published in journals such as Science, International Economic Review, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management and Journal of Public Economics.

Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a recent PhD in economics, or be close to finishing their thesis. Research in environmental and behavioral economics is valuable. The applicant who, in the overall assessment of skills and potential, is deemed to be best suited to carry out the identified job assignments will be selected for the post. Research potential will be our key selection criterion, with a particular emphasis on the degree of progression and forward-looking aspects of the research. The applicants skills in collaborating internally, externally and in a interdisciplinary context will be given weight. International education and experience is also valuable. We encourage applications from those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application, or close to graduating.

Long-listed candidates will be interviewed at the ASSA meetings in Chicago 6-8 January 2017, or via a video link. Short-listed candidates will be invited to our department for interviews and research seminars after the ASSA meetings.
