Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Food and Drug Administration's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (FDA/CDER) is seeking economists (PhD or ABD) for its Economics Staff. CDER economists use their economic expertise and empirical skills to work closely with government leadership in shaping pharmaceutical policy, evaluating existing FDA policies and programs, and responding to economic inquiries from Congress. This position provides an exciting opportunity to work closely with government leadership in shaping pharmaceutical policy.

Recent projects involve drug shortages, biomarkers, biosimilars, drug and biologic manufacturing and distribution, and off label use of drugs. Although our work is specific to FDA and is usually circulated internally, we encourage our staff to present at conferences and publish in academic journals.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens and should have an interest in the following:
- Applying microeconomic concepts and analytical techniques towards solving complex economic problems;
-Communicating economic concepts and analytic techniques to non-technical audiences both verbally and in writing;
-Proactively establishing relationships with internal stakeholders to aid in the gathering of institutional knowledge and data needed to conduct analyses;

We welcome all candidates with expertise in applied microeconomics. Initial interviews will be conducted at the SEA and AEA meetings.
