Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Economics Department at Colby College invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the rank of assistant professor starting September 1, 2017.

We are searching for two early career economists with a potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship. For one of our openings, we invite applications from candidates from all fields of specialization. For the other opening, we are seeking candidates with a background in behavioral economics and an ability to teach corporate finance courses at the introductory and advanced levels. For both positions, we seek candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community at Colby through their scholarship, teaching, and/or service; and we especially encourage applications from members of historically underrepresented groups in the field.

Colby is a highly selective liberal arts college located in Central Maine with an economics curriculum that began in 1833. Colby has high standards for both teaching and research. Our students are motivated, intellectually curious, and easily engaged in the classroom and in independent research. Our department faculty have active research agendas generously supported by the College including a pre-tenure sabbatical at the end of the third year, start-up and travel funds, and student research assistants.

Our review of completed applications will begin on November 7, 2016. To be considered for an interview at the January 6-8, 2017 ASSA meetings in Chicago your application dossier must include: your curriculum vitae; a cover letter that describes your motivation for applying to Colby and includes an outline of your research agenda and how a liberal arts environment aligns with your teaching philosophy; three letters of recommendation; a representative sample of your scholarship; your graduate transcript; and evidence of classroom teaching effectiveness. Candidates for both positions should have a completed Ph.D. prior to September 1, 2017.
