Groupon is building the daily habit in local commerce, offering a vast mobile and online marketplace where people discover and save on amazing things to do, see, eat and buy. Currently Groupon operates in over 150 local markets in North America and in 28 different countries with $6B+ in annual billings. Groupon is redefining how small businesses attract and retain customers by providing them with customizable and scalable marketing tools and services to profitably grow their businesses.

The Local Intelligence team at Groupon is looking for economists and data scientists with at least a PhD and research interests in Industrial Organization, Microeconometrics, Two Sided Markets, or Entrepreneurship. The ideal candidate will have expertise in programming and querying languages, and experience/willingness to learn Hadoop, Hive, and Spark. You will collaborate with a team of brilliant data scientists, economists, engineers and product managers and will apply your expertise in these areas:

Application of economic and econometric principles to improve Groupon’s marketplace:

Designing, executing and measuring the results of large scale experiments
Interpreting and communicating insights and findings to product, service, and business managers
Going into uncharted territory with bold new ideas, and going the last mile on execution
