The Department of Economics at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Economics, effective August 21, 2017. Applicants must be committed to undergraduate education and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and research with undergraduates. In addition, applicants must have a promising scholarly agenda and commitment to taking an active part in the life and work of the Department and University. Preference will be given to candidates in the field in environmental economics. Teaching responsibilities may include principles of economics, intermediate theory, upper-level electives in the candidate’s field, and courses in the University’s liberal learning curriculum. The nominal teaching load for tenure track faculty is 3-3. The Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related field is required for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. In some cases, exceptionally well-qualified candidates may be considered for appointment at a higher rank and ABD candidates who will not hold the Ph.D. by the time of appointment may be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor. Phi Beta Kappa membership is highly desirable.

The Fall 2016 freshman class of 1,225 students was selected from nearly 8,000 admission applications, and presented high school GPA and SAT score middle 50% ranges of 3.5-4.0 and 1080-1240, respectively.
