The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) is a global think tank based in Waterloo, ON. Created in 2001, CIGI conducts policy oriented research on a wide range of international governance issues, including the global economy, global security and international law. A dynamic and innovative organization of leading researchers, policy practitioners and other professionals, CIGI has a unique opening for a Program Manager to join the Global Economy Program.

Overview:
The Program Manager is the senior staff reporting to the Director of the Global Economy Program. This individual will provide timely and informed execution of the business aspects of the program’s own projects and activities. Cultivating positive relationships with potential partners, the incumbent will have professional skills that permit extensive efforts to identify, to evaluate and to advise program management about opportunities for substantive program partnerships and research collaborations. This individual also will have oversight of the program’s project budgets and disbursements, tracking inputs and outputs utilizing their project management experience, in cooperation with the Director and the principal investigators for each project or activity. The Program Manager will facilitate efficient and effective relations between the Global Economy Program and other departments, and serve as a liaison with Finance and Public Affairs units. Finally, the Program Manager will be responsible for overseeing general office administration.

Specific Responsibilities:
• Oversee the management, budgeting, administration and implementation of the program’s core activities
• Help coordinate and manage the interface between program staff and senior and distinguished fellows associated with the same program
• Develop a monitoring system to track deliverables of program research and staff members
• Under the direction of the director, develop and update a budget for the Program
• Liaise with Finance units on program’s budget and financial matters
• Assist in identifying new outreach initiatives, formats and venues to showcase the program’s research and policy output
• Liaise with Public Affairs units in the organization of program’s workshops, conferences and other events, and in other outreach activities spearheaded by the program
• Liaise with external partners in the organization of various events, including high-profile gatherings
• Design a strategy to identify potential donors to the Program, write funding proposals ad ensure related follow-ups. In doing so, he or she developed material such as funding proposals, letter of intent, and memorandum of understanding
• With assistance of the Program Assistant, manage the program Director’s daily schedule and assist him on various administrative tasks as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
• Must have an undergraduate degree, preferably a graduate or professional degree in a related field
• Minimum of 5 years experience as a development and administration manager/senior officer or equivalent directing and overseeing daily operations at some combination of think tank, research institute, funding or granting council, foundation or university
• Interest in public policies and a demonstrated ability to quickly and effective absorb complex issues is an asset.
• Ability to develop and execute a strategic approach to building relationships and securing support from outside partners
• Knowledge of, and familiarity with, Canadian provincial and federal research policies and guidelines would be an asset
• Ability to prepare and to analyze financial documents, including project spreadsheets and budgets
• Ability to reconcile anticipated with actual expenditures
• Experience with, or at least awareness of, foreign (non-Canadian) research and think tank communities, as well as foreign research granting sources
• Project management skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Excel
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), interpersonal skills and organizational skills
• Demonstrated ability to take direction, work independently, lead team activities, and work collaboratively
• Excellent detail oriented skills
• Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive documents simultaneously
• Discretion, and ability to work with and to secure confidential materials
