Full Text of JOE Listing:

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) seeks to fill an economist position within the Office of Chief Economist. The selected candidate will join a core team of specialists and be responsible for assisting the team and other subject-matter experts with economic studies and projects related to IP policy, treaties, trade-related matters, and enforcement.

Duties include:
•Applying mathematical and economic principles to studies that address IP matters.
•Performing advanced methodological research, utilizing and programming state-of-the-art databases and statistical software; developing, testing and selecting advanced statistical models; ensuring the accuracy of measurements that data represent; analyzing results of models or other quantitative methods and generating inferences about the real world; evaluating the precision, reliability and validity of results; and preparing technical reports, other documents, presentations and briefing material.
•Providing consultation, guidance and other related technical support on economics and related advanced mathematical matters to the USPTO Chief Economist, team members and other subject-matter experts
•Participating in Chief Economist’s team efforts and activities, such as formulating and refining goals, planning activities, establishing priorities, developing measures of progress, providing feedback and resolution of issues, and preparing progress reports, briefing material or other documents.
